brookeworkBrooke Fitzgerald, NP enjoys working with addiction medicine and obtained her credentials as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2005 from University of Portland and a Bachelor’s in Science in Nursing from Oregon Health and Sciences University in 2000. Fitzgerald is nationally certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Brooke obtained a full scholarship for her Master’s degree from the National Health Service for her work with underserved populations. Fitzgerald work experience is varied, having worked in drug and alcohol treatment, behavioral health care, crisis treatment, correctional health and community health. Brooke taught classes at residential facilities discussing healthy lifestyle habits including nutrition, increasing physical activity and smoking cessation. At Fitzgerald’s previous employment in downtown Portland she supported patients, both physically and emotionally, through the detox/withdrawal from drugs and alcohol. Brooke’s medical knowledge about addictive substances and her many years experience leave her prepared to treat diabetes, thyroid disorders, digestive issues as well as other chronic and acute disease states.

After visiting Merritt Health and Wellness Brooke Fitzgerald was impressed with the practice vision and the preventative and integrated healthcare model. Brooke practices family medicine and has many years experience working with adolescents (which she loves). Fitzgerald would be happy to see patients for primary care or specialty services. Brooke is passionate about providing comprehensive wellness medicine and would like to see both males and females. Brooke grew up on an island in Alaska with a family that did not eat any white flour or white sugar. Fitzgerald is not surprised that she now finds herself working in a clinic that supports nutritional science and functional medicine. Brooke lives an active lifestyle and has 12 years of Bikram yoga practice. Fitzgerald lives with her husband and three boys within walking distance of Merritt Health and Wellness. Brooke is now taking new patients and is looking forward to helping patients on a path towards wellness.
