How Does Phentermine Work?

Phentermine, phendimetrazine and diethylproprion suppresses appetite by changing the chemistry in the brain. In a way that decreases the hunger drive. Individuals taking these medications lose weight because they are less hungry and thus consume fewer calories. These medications help you feel more in control of your appetite and food cravings. They can increase your satiety which means that when you eat you will feel full sooner. Phentermine, phendimetrazine and diethylproprion can also help you take your mind off food. Does Phentermine burn calories or fat? No. These medications do not alter metabolism or cause your body to burn more fat.

Phetermine, NOT the same thing as fen/phen. Fen/fen, a drug combination of fenfluramine and phentermine. Fenfluramine,  NOT related chemically to this medication. Fenfluramine, taken off the market in 1997 thought to cause in some patients a serious complication known as pulmonary hypertension. Phentermine, NOT associated with pulmonary hypertension or any other medical complication.

Do not use phentermine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby.

You should not take phentermine if you have a history of heart disease. This includes coronary artery disease, heart rhythm problems, congestive heart failure, stroke. Severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, glaucoma, a history of pulmonary hypertension. Or if you are in an agitated state, or if you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Do not use phentermine if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine.
